Susan Powell's family and supporters have not given up. Indeed, they are renewing their efforts to get the word out and to keep attention focused upon the case. A copy of their latest flyer is available below:

Unfortunately, this tragedy has caused a split in the respective families. Early on, driven in part by Josh Powell's awkward reactions and explanations, the Cox family started to question Josh's role. In response, some of the Powell family began to circle the wagons around Josh, although Josh's own biological sister Jennifer Graves believes Josh to be responsible for Susan's disappearance. Further fueling the split is a series of unlikely-sounding theories by Joshua Powell himself; recently, he speculated that Susan Powell may have run away with another man, Steven Koecher, to Brazil. He claimed that Susan led a secret, double life. Of course, the Cox family is absolutely outraged over these claims. Even Deseret News editor Lee Benson has weighed in -- against Josh Powell. There's also a report from October 2010 that back in December, Powell's four-year-old son allegedly said "Mommy's in the mine, looking for crystals". The same report also disclosed that Josh Powell, an avid fan of crime shows, is alleged to have told a friend at a 2008 Christmas party that the perfect hiding place for a body would be a deep mineshaft.
Josh Powell could well be the white "O.J. Simpson" -- or he could suffer from what I call "Joe Miller Syndrome", meaning that he is so socially inept and so public relations-illiterate that every time he opens his mouth, he snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. He may simply lack the capability to envision the effects of his words in advance. Joe Miller did precisely that in his Senate campaign in Alaska -- he snatched defeat from the jaws of victory through an incredible series of public relations gaffes the likes of which I've never seen. We can only continue to spread the word, support law enforcement's efforts to discover Susan's fate, and trust in God for the rest.
