Man Jumps From Runaway Dump Truck In Logan Canyon, Utah, Dies Of Injuries. As For The Truck...
...It survived. It ended up simply running off the road and remained upright. Look at it -- not even the windshield was damaged.
If he had stayed with the truck and wore a seat belt, he might have walked away just a bit shaken up.
The 35-year-old driver, not yet identified, was heading east on state Route 89/91 between Logan Canyon and Garden City enroute to Kemmerer, Wyoming around 10:40 a.m. on October 9th, 2010. The truck was hauling a trailer filled with asphalt. Troopers say the truck's brakes went out as the driver was headed down from the canyon's summit. Fearing the worst, the driver jumped from the vehicle. He died at the scene from head injuries. One commenter to the Tribune story noted that it has not been reported whether the driver jumped while the truck was still on the road or after it left the road.
I can just imagine the reaction of the man's family and friends when they find out about the circumstances of this. Unbelievable. Under the circumstances, I might have been tempted to jump, too.
