The birth status of President-elect Barack Obama continues to be questioned. Taking the lead in the renewed inquiry is WorldNetDaily. Its publisher, Joseph Farah, actually launched a petition campaign in order to force the system to respond. The petition page can be viewed HERE.
A number of legal challenges have already been launched. One case is scheduled for a conference among U.S. Supreme Court justices on December 5th. This refers to a case brought by Leo C. Donofrio against Nina Wells, the secretary of state in New Jersey, over not only Obama's name on the 2008 election ballot but those of two others, Sen. John McCain and Roger Calero. The case, unsuccessful at the state level, was submitted to Justice David Souter, who rejected it. The case then was resubmitted to Justice Clarence Thomas. If four of the nine justices vote to hear the case in full, oral argument may be scheduled.
There also was a development in a second case presented to the Supreme Court on the same issue. According to a report by Jeff Schreiber, the Federal Election Commission now has waived its right to respond to a complaint brought by attorney Philip Berg. More details available on the ObamaCrimes website.
And former presidential candidate Alan Keyes and others filed a court petition in California asking the secretary of state to refuse to allow the state's 55 Electoral College votes to be cast in the 2008 presidential election until Obama verifies his eligibility to hold the office. The Obama campaign has reacted in a most contemptuous fashion, dismissing all these efforts as "garbage". Consequently, Joseph Farah responded by launching this petition campaign. His justification is posted on the petition page, as follows:
Whereas, by requirement of the United States Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, no one can be sworn into office as president of the United States without being a natural born citizen;
Whereas, there is sufficient controversy within the citizenry of the United States as to whether presidential election winner Barack Obama was actually born in Hawaii as he claims;
Whereas, Barack Obama has refused repeated calls to release publicly his entire Hawaiian birth certificate, which would include the actual hospital that performed the delivery;
Whereas, lawsuits filed in several states seeking only proof of the basic minimal standard of eligibility have been rebuffed;
Whereas, Hawaii at the time of Obama's birth allowed births that took place in foreign countries to be registered in Hawaii;
Whereas, concerns that our government is not taking this constitutional question seriously will result in diminished confidence in our system of free and fair elections;
At the bottom of the page you can then sign the petition. Name and e-mail address are mandatory; zip code is optional (which implies that foreign signatories are welcome).
This is not intended to be a back-door means to remove Barack Obama from a presidency to which he has yet to be even sworn. It is to determine once and for all whether or not he meets the natural-born citizen criteria required by the U.S. Constitution to be president.
