Diversity Watch: Salt-And-Pepper Team Caught Running Craiglist-Based Prostitution Ring In Sandy, Utah; Three Underage Hookers Involved
A black man and his white girlfriend charged in connection with a Sandy prostitution ring made their first appearance in court on May 29th, 2008. Neither 26-year-old Eugene Dewayne Hopkins nor 18-year-old Julia Jane Young entered pleas at the hearing, but they are scheduled to have a bond-reduction hearing on Thursday June 5th at 10 A.M. For now, both will remain in custody at Salt Lake County Jail with bond set at $100,000. Full story published on KSL Channel 5, HERE and HERE, and KUTV Channel 2.
Both Hopkins and Young are each charged with four felony prostitution counts, as well as one count for possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Sandy police say Julia and her boyfriend, Dewayne Hopkins, advertised a false-front massage business on Craigslist. They actually arranged for their clients to meet girls as young as 15 years old for sex acts. A total of four girls were involved. Two of the girls used in the alleged prostitution ring were just 17-years-old, and one was only 15. The four girls involved weren't charged because they're considered to be victims.
According to Julia's mother, she had been working as a waitress at a local restaurant up until late February. Ruth also said Young finished school at Highland High School and had been living with Hopkins for six months. However, Young maintained a Facebook page where she claims she works in the "modeling" business "[handling] the models mostly and occasionally jumping in on a shoot." Sandy Police Sgt. Victor Quezada characterized the two as "pimp and madam". "The money was just too good for them," Quezada said. "It's tempting; a young girl making $100 an hour after the cut was made."
Sandy police also said that some of these sex acts were occurring at a hotel in Midvale. Someone who was concerned for the welfare of these girls tipped off police. Then undercover officers did a sting and got the evidence to arrest Hopkins and Young. Police say the two had been running the operation for at least a couple months.
Julia's attorney wouldn't comment on his defense strategy moving forward, but he did say why Julia's bond amount is so high. "Two reasons they can keep someone or have a high bond: One is a flight risk, that they might leave the jurisdiction; and the other is that they're a risk to the safety of the community," attorney Larry Long explained.
Commentary: Let's see. Hopkins is 26 years old, Young is 18 years old. Does it take a rocket scientist to figure out who is the senior partner here, and who corrupted who? I think not.
And certainly White Revolution Deputy Chairman Victor Gerhard is likewise not fooled. In an essay published HERE, Gerhard explains the dangers of forming intimate interracial relationships. All too frequently, they can lead to the type of situations as described above.
