The Salt Lake Tribune reports on January 12th, 2007 that Salt Lake police and FBI officials arrested two men they believe killed a 16-year-old boy and critically injured another man Sunday. Supplemental reports from the Deseret Morning News and KSL Channel 5.
On Friday January 11th, police named Luis Salazar Mendoza, 23, and Alexis Rodriguez, 17, as the suspected gunmen who killed Diego Mendoza and injured Eder Orona outside Sears department store in downtown Salt Lake City on Sunday. Less than 24 hours later, at approximately 2:30 A.M. Saturday, police and FBI officials arrested the alleged shooters at the Motel 6 in Woods Cross. The suspects offered no resistance.
Police say 16-year-old Diego Mendoza, his brother Joel Mendoza and the 23-year-old Orona had pulled into the parking lot of Sears, 754 S. State St., to stop at a taco stand on Sunday January 6th when two men armed with pistols got out of a white car, walked up to their SUV and opened fire. Diego Mendoza, who was a sophomore at Granger High School, was shot in the head and died at the scene. Orona was shot four times in the chest. Joel Mendoza, the third person who was previously unidentified, escaped unharmed.
Luis Salazar Mendoza is charged with one count of criminal homicide/aggravated murder, two counts of attempted criminal homicide/aggravated murder and three counts of discharge of a firearm from a vehicle. He is being held at the Salt Lake County Jail on $2 million bail.
Alexis Rodriguez is charged with one count of criminal homicide/murder and one count of discharge of a firearm from a vehicle. His bail and the location of his detention were not disclosed, possibly because he is a minor.
News of the arrest came nearly a day after Diego Mendoza's family buried the teen Friday. The funeral at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salt Lake City drew dozens of people. While the family has not officially reacted to the arrest, the news will undoubtedly help to expedite the grieving process.
One other person as been arrested in connection with this case. Michelle Ramirez, identified as the owner of the getaway car, was arrested on January 9th in connection with the shooting after police found her abandoned car on January 8th and traced ownership to her. Although Ramirez told the police that she merely "loaned the car to friends", detectives claim she lied several times about known facts of the murder case and refused to reveal the identifies of the people she loaned the car to, so she's now sitting in jail. She's been charged with obstruction of justice in a homicide investigation, a second-degree felony.
Commentary: Another great job by Salt Lake police in tracking down and apprehending more violent offenders. The investigation will now focus on motive. The actual shooter was the 23-year-old Luis Mendoza. It seems illogical that he would target the 16-year-old high school sophomore. So the question is, was there an issue between Luis Mendoza and the 23-year-old Eder Orona. I suspect the real battle was intended to be between those two, and Diego Mendoza just caught in the line of fire. Hispanic and black gangbangers don't generally give a shit about collateral damage, much like Islamic suicide bombers who blow themselves up - and take 20-50 victims with them at once. [Ed. Note: Islam is what Dubya calls a "religion of peace". LOL!]
Or it could be just a horrific case of mistaken identity. The shooters may have mistaken the other three for members of a rival gang.
What impresses me is the assertive and intelligent reaction by Utahns to this crime, as expressed through comments posted on the KSL website. It looks like white Utahns are becoming less afraid to express racially-assertive (but not abusive) sentiments about the situation. They realize that the massive influx of Mexicans and other Latin Americans is so large that its sheer quantity alone is causing destabilization of our society (Joseph Stalin once said that "quantity has a quality all its own"). Most of the comments condemning the Mexican invasion of the Southwest are drawing strong positive rep, while comments counseling restraint, accomodation, and sucking up to the multicultural agenda are drawing strong negative rep. Here's a sampling of comments:

This is amazing! I can't believe Mexicans were involved in crime! This must be a first... I am certainly glad we allow them to occupy our country and take advantage of all our ancestors have worked their way to accomplish. :sarcasm:
How do you know they are mexicans you dink! (strong negative rep)

Your comment is about the most low life, uneducated crap I have seen in a long time. Pull your pants up and go back to school.
Did you go to school Ivander? (moderate positive rep)

Your spelling and grammar are pathetic. Do us all a favor and if you are going to post please don't show your ignorance so blatantly. In the future please attempt to use proper English and grammar.

I don't agree with the hanging them from the rafters deal. I think I know what you were trying to say. I do however believe that we are not tough enough on crime and that being Politically Correct is going to be our downfall.
We are so afraid of offending someone that the criminals are receiving more rights then law abiding citizens.
As I have said in the past, children have more rights then their parents.
Some law enforcement agencies are telling us not to defend ourselves and to let law enforcement take care of any problems we may have. So when I am watching a criminal rape and do horible things to my family I am suppose to wait for law enforcement.
For example: If I shoot someone that was in my house and they didn't have a weapon, I will be charged with murder. The criminal was in my house, I don't care if he had a weapon or not.
Unless laws are changed to give law abiding citizens more rights and protections. We are in trouble as a nation.
With blacks, Latinos, Asians, and American Indians organizing racially, and being encouraged to continue doing so, it is utterly stupid and even suicidal for those of us in the white community to fail to do so. Failure to do so will mean we will be fighting with one hand tied behind our backs.
We do not have to embrace controversial symbols like the swastika or the Klan uniform to do this. We just have to stand up and defend ourselves, without abusing those of other racial groups who do us no harm. This means when non-whites behave racially towards us, we must behave racially towards them in return, but in a defensive mode. Do not behave in a racial manner towards non-whites without provocation. Discriminate between the innocent and guilty; do not hold the innocent responsible for the sins of guilty. For example, do not hold your Latino neighbor next door responsible for the sins of a Tony Yapias.
Use common sense.
